Martial Arts
- Kendo: I started Kendo summer of 2010, and enjoy doing it :)
- Kenpo: I started Kenpo February of 2006, and have been elevated to a black gi (but still a colored belt), meaning official recognition as an asistant instructor but still a student. I spend time instructing the kid's class followed by participation of the adult class. I have been taking some time off from it since having moved away from the Monmouth area into Salem, and especially when I moved back home to Aloha.
SCA
- The Society of Creative Anachronism is Medieval and Renaissance re-enactment. Usually these are camping events. The 'Kingdom' we live in is the Kingdom of An Tir. Most of what I do in the SCA is a 14th century Italian personna, but I am currently researching an early Roman personna to go back to what I started with, which is from the Etruscan area of Italy in the 4th century. I have gone by the name of Octavian Silvermoon for many years, but there isn't period documentation for that name, but I have gotten registered the 'period' name is Gaius Octavianus Lunanus. This roughly translates to 'the one known as Octavianus/Octavian, who is from the town of Luna.'
- Fencing: I have enjoyed fencing since I first started. I have recently began competing seriously, and am the 2009 and 2011 Mountain Edge defender as well as the 2010 Dragon's Mist defedner. I also participate in boffer fighting, but that only goes so far when you can't hear the clang of steel on steel when you are trying to kill your opponent in a duel ;)
- Chainmaille: Most of my chainmaille I make is jewelry rather than "practical" items such as shirts or coifs. I tend to make either earrings or byzantine-patterned bracelets and necklaces.
- Wine: I ferment fruit wines, and have done so for quite a few years. I have more on this on my page about fruit wine. Recently I have made a couple wines from period sources, including two different cherry wines and one pear wine.
Gaming
- LARP: Every week on Saturdays I participate in a Live Action RolePlaying game that I have been in since the summer of 2008. We are running the old 'World of Darkness' by Whitewolf, with each night being a different primary venue. We have venues for Vampire, Werewolf, Changeling, and Mage.
- D&D: Some friends of mine have a weekly D&D 3.5 edition game on Sundays. It is a lot of fun, and I am playing a fae ninja (rouge) that is immune to fire and prone to playing tricks on other people.
Work: I work in the IT department of a community college. This is working supporting client workstations running Windows (Windows XP and Windows 7) or Mac OSX (10.5 Leopard and 10.6 Snow Leopard). On top of that, I am Microsoft Certified for Windows XP Professional and Apple Certified for OSX 10.5 Leopard.
Here are some other things that might be of use to you:
- Renaissance clothing ~~ Example garb outfits and patterns for Renaissance re-enactment
- Pets ~~ Currently I have 2 cats, a tuxedo cat named Mr. Mistoffelees and an all-black cat named Sutekh. In the past we have had 4 cats (Sai, Yuki, Ken, and Sabriel) and 2 rats (kuro-nezumi and Luis), as well as some rabbits. I have a lot more pictures of them than what is on here, but it's at least a start. You'll also find that there are pictures or past pets who have either passed on or left to live somewhere else here on my Pets
page. Yuki gave birth to 5 kitties on 5/5, so we have cinco de 猫 (ねこ/neko)。
- Poems ~~ I have almost all of my poetry up in my poetry section. Out of my poetry, I have been published in multiple venues of literature, online and in print. Published works: The Moon On Next Morrow's Night, The First Snow, and Souls Of the Dead. There are also some published in poetry anthologies from yearbook-signing books printed in high school, but I don't remember which ones off-hand were printed in that.
To date I have had one poem published by another online site and two poems professionally published. The first is from my blue section [The Moon On Next Morrow's Nigh] and was published on a website for Celtic culture in Australia back in about 1996 or 1997 or so. The second one is from my green section [The First Snow] was published Fall 2000 in an anthology called "Time After Time" by The International Libray of Poetry. The third one is to be published not only in an anthology through The International Library of Poetry, but read aloud on a cd with 32 other poems! It is from my purple section [Souls of the Dead].
